Introduction to Dance :

"Dance" needs no Introduction. Simple definition of 'dance' is that it is a body movement which expresses emotion, helps in social interaction and non verbal communication. It may vary from practitioner to practitioner; depend on social and cultural norms, aesthetic sense and artistic and moral sensibilities.

There are many styles and genres of dance all around the world, such as Ballet, Salsa, Hip-hop, Latin, American, Jazz, Swing, Bollywood, Contemporary, Folk Dance and Classical Dance etc. and they have been an important part of ceremonies, rituals, celebrations and entertainment since the earliest human civilizations.

Specifically in India, dance comprises of varied styles, like Indian Classical dance, Folk dances of different regions etc. and Hindi Cinema Style has exposed the range of dance to the global audience with the name of "Bollywood" Dancing.

Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kathakali, Manipuri, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam and Satriya are the recognized Indian classical dance forms known through decades. Classical and Folkdances of India have emerged from traditions, epics and mythology. Folk dances can be located according to the regions of their origin. Every state has its own folk dance form like, Garba and Raas in Gujarat, Bhangra and Gidda in Punjab, Kalbelia and Ghoomar in Royal Rajasthan, etc.

Bollywood dance itself is a fusion of all dance forms. It could be Indian classical, Indian folk, Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop and everything which one can think of.
